Community Engagement Committee Members – Hobart Mother’s Day Classic

Mother's Day Classic Foundation

Advertised by Volunteering Tasmania

The Mother’s Day Classic brings communities across Australia together each Mother’s Day to walk, run and raise funds for breast and ovarian cancer research. It is also a day to remember, celebrate and stand alongside those impacted by breast and ovarian cancer. At the heart of every Mother’s Day Classic is the local community that brings it to life.

About the Community Engagement Committee

For our 2027 Hobart Mother’s Day Classic, we’re building a new Community Engagement Committee — a group of local volunteers who will bring their skills, ideas and community connections together to help shape and strengthen the event.

Working alongside the local Event Manager and MDC National Office, the Committee will help grow participation, strengthen community connections, support volunteers, build local partnerships and create a welcoming and memorable event experience.

It’s an opportunity to use your skills in a meaningful way, meet other community-minded people, build local connections and help shape an event that means so much to people in your community.

Find the role that fits you

Our Committee is made up of people with different skills, interests, experience and levels of availability. You might lead a particular area, support the wider Committee or contribute to specific activities.

We’re currently looking for volunteers interested in:

Community Engagement Committee Chair Bring people together, support the Committee to work effectively and help keep local priorities moving.

Community Outreach Lead Help more people across Hobart hear about, connect with and participate in the Mother’s Day Classic.

Volunteer Engagement Lead Help recruit local volunteers, create a welcoming volunteer experience and build a connected volunteer community.

Sponsorships Lead Build relationships with local businesses and help grow appropriate local sponsorship and in-kind support.

Event Day Fundraising Lead Help develop local fundraising opportunities, source fundraising support and bring engaging fundraising activities to life on Event Day.

Event Experience Lead Help create a welcoming and memorable event through entertainment, family and community activities, and meaningful MDC moments.

Vendor Lead Help connect the event with suitable local food, coffee and beverage vendors to create a great event village experience.

Community Support Volunteers Want to contribute without taking on an ongoing portfolio? Support the Committee with specific activities that suit your skills, interests and availability.

You don’t need to know which role is right for you before getting in touch. If you’re interested in being involved but aren’t sure where you’d fit, we’d still love to hear from you.

You might be a great fit if you...

  • Enjoy connecting with people and contributing as part of a team
  • Are comfortable taking ownership of something you’ve agreed to do
  • Have local knowledge, skills, ideas or connections — or are enthusiastic about developing them
  • Enjoy contributing to your community
  • Would like to use your skills and experience to support a meaningful cause

You don’t need previous experience with the Mother’s Day Classic or to have been part of a committee before. We’re interested in the skills, interests and experience you can bring from your work, volunteering, community involvement or everyday life.

What you can expect from us

MDC will provide induction, clear role guidance, practical tools and resources, and ongoing support from your local Event Manager and MDC National Office.

Depending on your role, you’ll also have access to specialist support across volunteering, marketing, partnerships, fundraising and event delivery.

You’ll have a clear area of contribution, a team to work alongside and people to turn to when you need support.

What involvement looks like

Community Engagement Committees work together from November through to the Mother’s Day Classic in May, with activity increasing as Event Day approaches.

The Committee meets regularly throughout the campaign, generally for around one hour, either online or in person. Portfolio Leads also spend time between meetings progressing their area, with involvement varying depending on the role and stage of the campaign.

Community Support Volunteer roles are more flexible, allowing you to contribute to specific activities based on your skills, interests and availability.

Committee members are also encouraged to join us on Mother’s Day, Sunday 9 May 2027, supporting the Hobart Mother’s Day Classic in an agreed Event Day role.
