Parent and Family Volunteers providing peer support on the Parent and Family Drug Support Line.

Parent and Family Drug Support

Advertised by Volunteering WA

Parent and Family Drug Support seeks PARENTS/CARERS/GUARDIANS with a LIVED EXPERIENCE of supporting a child (of any age) who has experienced difficulties with alcohol and/or other drug use (past or present). The role of the PARENT and FAMILY VOLUNTEER is to provide peer support to people calling the Parent and Family Drug Support Line seeking support about their child or family member’s alcohol and/or other drug use. These callers have expressed a desire to speak to other parents and family members who have been affected by these issues and who can provide support, listening and empathy.  Calls to the Parent and Family Drug Support Line will be answered by our professional counselling team, who will assess if it’s appropriate to pass a call onto a Parent and Family Volunteer.  It is vital that Parent and Family Volunteers have lived experience of being a parent/carer, close family member, or significant other of someone who has had difficulties with alcohol and/or other drug use, and expressions of interest can only be taken for those who meet this criteria.

Parent and Family Volunteers provide at least one 3-5 hour shift per week on the telephone roster providing telephone support to parent callers from the comfort of their own home.

Full training, and ongoing support will be provided. Some in person training is required in Perth.

Due to the large volume of interest we receive, we may not be able to respond to your expression of interest if you do not specify you have the required lived experience.
