OzHarvest, Australia's leading food rescue organisation, is looking for fresh faces to help at one of the biggest events on the OzHarvest calendar - CEO CookOff!
Every day across the country, our teams collect tonnes of quality excess food that would otherwise go to waste from supermarkets, bakeries, wholesalers and caterers. This food is then redistributed to a number of local charities providing assistance to vulnerable people in our communities. Our food rescue and relief services are completely free of charge to both donors and recipient charities. Our regular and free food deliveries to charities enable them to provide crucial food relief services while reducing their food spending and redirecting vital funding into education, rehabilitation and other services.
Each week, we prevent tonnes of good food from going to landfill - which in turn prevents tonnes of warming gases entering our atmosphere. By preventing quality food from being wasted, we're valuing this essential resource, we're nourishing our planet and fighting climate change, and we're nourishing our community with nutritious, quality, surplus food.
CEO CookOff brings together Australia’s leading chefs, business and community leaders, and corporate teams for an unforgettable night built around food, connection and impact, to raise funds for our ongoing food rescue operations. CEOs who have pledged to raise funds for OzHarvest will cook, serve, and share and incredible meal with guests from OzHarvest’s supported charities.
OzHarvest volunteers will be an integral part of the smooth running of the event and engagement with our guests – including CEO’s, Chefs, and charities.
ROLES AT COOKOFF MAY INCLUDE:
-
Table Ambassador This role helps sprinkle the yellow on the dining experience for the guests, chatting about OzHarvest and our work and ensuring guests are comfortable, supported, and enjoying themselves.
-
Front of House (FOH) Service - These roles will assist our FOH Manager on the event floor, to look after our guests, serve food and beverages, and keep service flowing smoothly.
-
Kitchen / Back of House (BOH) Support – Assist our Chefs to support the kitchen cooking stations, including refilling ingredients, equipment, and spot cleaning. Note, this is not a cooking role.
-
Cleaning/Wash-up - Keep dishwashing and site cleanliness running continuously so kitchen equipment and the venue stay clean and stocked throughout the night.****
After the event, those who join our volunteer team will be able to help with our ongoing food rescue volunteer role. Volunteer Food Rescue Assistants ride along in the passenger seat of our iconic yellow truck and assist our Food Rescue Driver in collecting surplus food from the food industry, checking it for quality, and distributing it, same day, to local charities who provide food relief to vulnerable people in our community. This is a physically demanding but rewarding role which involves getting in and out of our vehicles and repeatedly lifting crates of produce into and out of the vehicle.
Both roles include being an Ambassador for OzHarvest, and representing our mission in a positive manner when interacting with donors, recipient charity staff and clients, corporate CookOff participants, and the general public.
