Greyhound Kennel Volunteer

As a Greyhound Care Volunteer, you’ll be an important part of the team helping our greyhounds feel safe, comfortable, enriched and ready for their next chapter.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll get involved in the everyday care of our dogs and help keep their environment clean, comfortable and enriching.

You might find yourself:

• 🐕 Walking and handling greyhounds, including supporting designated GAP dogs when requested by staff
• 🧼 Cleaning and resetting kennels, including changing bedding, disinfecting surfaces and hosing enclosures
• 🧠 Preparing enrichment activities such as snuffle mats, Kongs, scent games and foraging activities
• 🎓 Supporting basic training and life-skills exercises, including polite waiting, name recognition, settling and appropriate greetings
• 🧺 Cleaning and resetting equipment, returning leads and harnesses, assisting with laundry and restocking supplies
• 🧹 Helping keep training spaces, kitchens, volunteer areas and kennel areas clean, tidy and welcoming
• 🍽️ Preparing food as directed by staff, including cutting and portioning food
• 👀 Observing greyhounds throughout the day and letting staff know about any changes in behaviour, health or wellbeing
• 💚 Providing calm social interaction and practical support that contributes to the comfort, health and wellbeing of our dogs

What we're looking for:

We're looking for people who are reliable, patient and happy to get involved in all aspects of greyhound care.

You'll ideally be:

• Reliable and willing to assist with a variety of hands-on tasks
• Comfortable working in a kennel environment and around dogs of different ages and temperaments
• Confident handling dogs, or willing and able to learn
• Comfortable following instructions and established training practices
• Patient, calm and attentive when interacting with animals
• Happy to follow cleaning, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures
• Comfortable working both as part of a team and independently when required
• Observant and confident communicating any concerns to staff
• Passionate about greyhounds and animal welfare
