About the Role
The Perth Dinghy Sailing Club (PDSC) is a volunteer-run sailing club with a proud history of more than 120 years. Our canteen plays an important role in supporting sailors, families and volunteers on Saturday sailing days, providing simple food, drinks and refreshments throughout the season.
We are looking for a Canteen Coordinator / Helper to assist with the preparation and operation of the PDSC Canteen on Saturday mornings.
This is a hands-on volunteer role that is ideal for someone who enjoys being part of the club community, helping others and keeping things organised.
You don't need to be a sailor to volunteer , you just need to be willing to lend a hand!
Key Responsibilities
🥪 Canteen Food Preparation
Assist with preparing the canteen for Saturday trading, including:
- Preparing meat and salad rolls for sale.
- Washing and cutting salad ingredients such as lettuce, tomato, cucumber and other fresh produce.
- Preparing and assembling rolls and sandwiches.
- Preparing other simple food items as required.
- Ensuring food is prepared hygienically and stored appropriately.
- Monitoring food supplies and advising when additional preparation is required.
- Following appropriate food handling and hygiene practices.
🥤 Drinks & Fridge Stocking

Stock and organise the drinks fridge before the commencement of Saturday sailing.

Monitor stock levels throughout the day.

Replenish the fridge as required.
🥧 Pie Warmer & Hot Food
- Stock the pie warmer with pies, pastries and other approved hot food items.
- Monitor stock throughout the day and replenish as required.
- Ensure hot food is handled and displayed appropriately..
🧹 Canteen Cleaning & Presentation
Help ensure the canteen is clean, hygienic and welcoming for members and visitors.
⛵ Saturday Sailing Day Support
- Assist with opening and preparing the canteen prior to Saturday trading.
- Help ensure food, drinks and other stock are ready
- Assist with serving members and visitors when required.
- Work cooperatively with other volunteers.
- Help maintain a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the canteen.
- Assist with closing and cleaning the canteen at the end of service.
What We're Looking For
You don't need previous canteen or hospitality experience. We're looking for someone who is:
- Friendly and approachable.
- Reliable and willing to help.
- Comfortable working as part of a small volunteer team.
- Organised and able to work independently when required.
- Happy to get involved with food preparation and cleaning.
- Able to follow basic food hygiene and safety requirements.
- Comfortable interacting with PDSC members, sailors, families and visitors.
- Willing to contribute to the club community.
Hospitality, catering or food-handling experience is helpful but not essential.
Training & Support
PDSC will provide an induction to the canteen and its procedures.
Volunteers will be shown:
- How to open and set up the canteen.
- Where food and drinks are stored.
- How to prepare the standard canteen food items.
- How to operate the pie warmer and other equipment.
- Food handling and hygiene procedures.
- Cleaning requirements.
- Stocking and restocking procedures.
- Closing and securing the canteen.
You won't be expected to know everything on day one , we'll show you what needs to be done and you won't be on your own their will be other volunteers with you.
