🌸 A Familiar Language Can Open the Door to Friendship 🌸

- Do you speak Mandarin and enjoy a chat?
- Have an hour a fortnight to spare?
- Brighten an older person's life & help end loneliness!
✨ What is ACVVS? ✨
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) connects volunteers with older people who are socially isolated, creating regular friendship, companionship, and meaningful social connection.
St Vincent's Health is looking for volunteers who share our commitment to compassion, excellence, justice, and integrity, and who would like to make a positive difference in the life of an older person.
Every friendship is unique. Some visits are filled with conversation and laughter, while others are quieter moments spent simply enjoying each other's company.
🧩 What a Visit Could Look Like 🧩
• Chatting together in Mandarin over a cup of tea
• Sharing stories, memories, and experiences
• Talking about culture, family, food, or daily life
• Listening to music, reading, or enjoying a favourite activity together
• Offering companionship through genuine presence and friendship
🌏 Who Could Be a Great Fit? 🌏
We are seeking a volunteer who:
• Speaks Mandarin
• Appreciates the importance of cultural connection
• Is kind, patient, and reliable
• Enjoys building friendships and meaningful relationships
• Can commit to regular visits
No aged care experience is required. You do not need to provide personal care or entertainment. Your role is simply to be a friendly and consistent companion.
💞 Why Your Support Matters 💞
For many older people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, connecting with someone who shares their language and culture can be incredibly meaningful.
A regular visitor can help reduce feelings of loneliness, encourage social connection, and create moments of joy and comfort through shared understanding and friendship.
The Practical Bits
• You must be 18 years or over
• A NDIS clearance is required and is organised and funded by St Vincent's
• Visits are approximately 30 minutes to one hour
• Visits occur at least once a fortnight throughout the year
• We are looking for someone who can build an ongoing, respectful connection
🌸 Could You Be the Friendly Mandarin-Speaking Visitor Joy Is Waiting For? 🌸
If you have an hour to spare, speak Mandarin, and would like to bring companionship, cultural connection, and friendship to an older person, we would love to hear from you.
Your time, your language, and your kindness could make all the difference.
At St Vincent's, we value inclusion and diversity. We are committed to creating an environment that is welcoming, safe, fair, and inclusive, and we invite people from all backgrounds to join our caring community.
