Volunteer Visitor Opportunities – Frankston South

Are you a friendly bloke who enjoys a good chat, sharing a laugh, playing a few games and getting to know people?

Ageing with Grace is looking for some good blokes aged 40 and over to become volunteer visitors to two older gentlemen living in an aged care home in Frankston South.

You don't need to be an aged care professional or have any special qualifications. We're simply looking for men who are friendly, reliable, patient and genuinely interested in spending time with an older person.

We currently have two gentlemen looking for companionship, and you can choose to visit one of them – or, if you would enjoy it, potentially get to know both.

πŸ‘΄ Meet Roy

Roy is in his early 90s and has lived a full and interesting life. In his younger years he was a keen fisherman and enjoyed a variety of sporting pursuits. He was also a keen gardener.

Roy is vision impaired and has hearing difficulties, so he would particularly appreciate someone who speaks clear English and is easy to understand.

Roy would enjoy having someone to:

  • Chat with about his life and experiences
  • Talk about fishing, sport, gardening and other interests
  • Play trivia and have a bit of friendly competition
  • Share a regular catch-up and build a genuine friendship

Roy has a supportive family who visit when they can, but because of his vision and hearing difficulties, he can sometimes feel isolated and would really value some regular company.

πŸ‘΄ Meet Alan

Alan is 86 and also has a supportive family who visit as often as they can. A former truck driver, Alan has plenty of stories and life experiences to share. He enjoys word games, computer games, indoor bowls, reading and exercise.

Alan uses a walker and, depending on how he's feeling on the day, may enjoy a gentle walk with his visitor.

He would particularly enjoy the company of a male visitor aged 40+ who speaks clear English and is easy to understand, as he can find strong accents difficult to follow due to his hearing.

πŸ’™ What we're looking for

We're looking for good blokes aged 40+ who:

  • Enjoy a good conversation and listening to other people's stories
  • Are friendly, patient and easy-going
  • Are reliable and able to visit regularly
  • Have clear, easy-to-understand English
  • Would enjoy playing games, sharing interests or simply having a cuppa and a chat
  • Live in or can easily travel to the Frankston South area
  • Would like to make a genuine difference through friendship and companionship

You don't have to visit both gentlemen – you can choose the person you feel you would connect with best.

About the volunteer role

Through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), volunteers provide friendship and companionship to older people who may be experiencing loneliness or social isolation.

This isn't a personal care role. It's about friendship, conversation, shared interests and helping someone feel a little more connected.

If you're a good bloke who has a little time to spare and would enjoy getting to know an older gentleman, we'd love to hear from you.

Come and make a difference through friendship.

As part of the Australian Government-funded Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), you'll receive training, ongoing support and the opportunity to make a lasting difference through regular companionship.
