Historic Ketch Falie Inc. is looking for the right person to join our Board as Honorary Treasurer — and this is far more than a bookkeeping role.

This is an opportunity to become part of an organisation entering an exciting new chapter, helping preserve the legacy of the historic ketch Falie while supporting heritage, education, community and documentary projects.

Falie has stories worth preserving — and we need someone who can help us build the financial foundations to make that happen.

You might be an accountant, bookkeeper, finance professional, retired professional, business owner or someone with strong financial administration experience who would like to use your skills for something genuinely worthwhile.

About us

Historic Ketch Falie Inc. is a South Australian incorporated association and registered charity dedicated to preserving, interpreting and promoting the history and legacy of Falie.

Our work includes heritage interpretation, education, community engagement, fundraising and project development. The organisation is entering a period of Board renewal and growth, making this an excellent time for a new Treasurer to come aboard and help shape what comes next.

What you will do

Working with the Chairperson and Board, the Treasurer will help provide clear and responsible financial oversight.

Key duties include:

• overseeing financial records, income and expenditure;
• preparing or assisting with financial reports for Board meetings;
• monitoring bank balances and financial commitments;
• supporting budgeting and financial planning;
• helping maintain appropriate financial controls;
• supporting grants, projects and acquittals;
• assisting with annual financial reporting and AGM requirements;
• helping ensure relevant charity and incorporated-association financial obligations are met; and
• providing practical financial advice to the Board.

You will not be expected to do everything alone. The role works collaboratively with the Chairperson, Board and other volunteers, and appropriate records and handover information will be provided.

Skills and experience

We welcome applicants with experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, business management, financial administration or similar areas.

Formal accounting qualifications are welcome but not essential.

What matters most is sound financial literacy, good judgement, reliability, attention to detail and the ability to explain financial information clearly.

Experience with charities, incorporated associations or grant-funded organisations would be an advantage, but is not required.

You do not need maritime or heritage experience.

Time commitment

The role is expected to require approximately 2–4 hours per month, plus attendance at a monthly Board meeting of around 1.5–2 hours.

Some additional time may occasionally be required around annual reporting, budgets, grant acquittals or the AGM.

Much of the work can be completed remotely and at times that suit you.

What you will gain

This is an opportunity to:

• join the Board of a registered South Australian charity and Deductible Gift Recipient organisation;
• contribute to the future of an important maritime heritage organisation;
• gain or extend not-for-profit governance experience;
• help shape financial strategy and organisational development;
• contribute to heritage, education and community projects; and
• use your professional skills in a role with genuine purpose and impact.

Good heritage projects need more than enthusiasm — they need strong financial foundations. Your contribution will help Historic Ketch Falie Inc. manage its resources responsibly, strengthen its governance and support projects that preserve history for future generations.

Membership and Board election

As Treasurer is an elected Board position, the successful applicant will need to become a member of Historic Ketch Falie Inc., be formally nominated and be elected in accordance with the Association's Constitution.

We will guide the preferred applicant through the membership, nomination and election process.

The successful applicant will also need to hold, or be willing to obtain, a current South Australian Working with Children Check and comply with the governance and confidentiality responsibilities applying to Board members.

Reasonable, pre-approved out-of-pocket expenses may be reimbursed in accordance with Association policy.

Interested?

We are looking to move promptly and would ideally like to identify a suitable Treasurer before, at, or shortly after our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, 11 October 2026.

Applications do not need to be complicated. Simply provide a brief introduction outlining your relevant experience and why the opportunity interests you.

A confidential, no-obligation conversation about the role is also very welcome.
