Speld QLD Inc.

Management Committee Member – Volunteer

Help shape the future of an organisation improving learning outcomes for Queenslanders.

Speld is seeking an experienced, values-aligned professional to join our Management Committee and contribute to the next stage of our strategy, impact and growth.

This is an opportunity to bring your experience, perspective and networks to a respected Queensland not-for-profit and help strengthen our governance, sustainability and influence.

About Speld

For more than 50 years, Speld has supported Queenslanders experiencing learning difficulties to realise their full potential.

We provide evidence-based advice, assessment, intervention and professional support to individuals, families, schools, educators and other professionals across Queensland.

Our vision is to lead the delivery of high-quality services that enhance learning outcomes for Queenslanders experiencing learning difficulties.

The opportunity

As a Management Committee member, you will work alongside fellow members and Speld’s Chief Executive Officer to provide strategic direction, governance and oversight of the organisation.

You will contribute independent judgement, professional expertise and constructive challenge, helping ensure Speld remains well governed, financially sustainable and positioned to increase its impact.

This is a governance role. Day-to-day management of Speld is delegated to the Chief Executive Officer and leadership team.

What you will contribute

As a member of the Management Committee, you will:

  • contribute to Speld’s strategic direction and long-term priorities

  • provide effective governance and oversight of organisational performance

  • contribute to financial, risk and sustainability oversight

  • support and constructively challenge the Chief Executive Officer

  • bring an external perspective to opportunities, risks and emerging issues

  • contribute your expertise and networks to strengthen Speld’s relationships, influence and profile

  • act as an ambassador for Speld and its purpose

  • participate actively in Management Committee meetings and strategic planning.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who shares Speld’s purpose and can contribute effectively at a strategic and governance level.

You will bring sound judgement, integrity, curiosity and a collaborative approach, together with an understanding of governance, financial oversight and organisational risk.

Priority experience

As we consider the future composition and capability of our Management Committee, we are particularly interested in candidates who bring strength in one or more of the following areas:

  • established Queensland Government networks
  • healthcare or allied health experience
  • cultural knowledge, lived experience or community connections that broaden the perspectives represented on the Management Committee
  • senior marketing, communications, brand or stakeholder engagement experience
  • strong financial acumen and senior experience in finance, accounting, audit, risk or financial governance.

You do not need to bring expertise across all of these areas.

Desirable

  • Previous board or Management Committee experience.
  • Formal governance training, preferably completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Company Directors Course.
  • Experience in education, disability, healthcare, community services or the not-for-profit sector.

Why join Speld?

This is an opportunity to use your professional experience and networks to make a meaningful contribution to an organisation with a long history of supporting Queenslanders experiencing learning difficulties.

You will join a committed Management Committee and leadership team at an important point in Speld’s development, with the opportunity to help shape where the organisation will be in the years ahead.

This is a voluntary Management Committee appointment.

Interested?

We welcome expressions of interest from people who believe their experience, perspective and networks could contribute to Speld’s future.

Please submit a brief cover letter outlining the experience you would bring to the Management Committee, together with your CV.
