🌿Could You Be a Friendly Face in an Aged Care? I ACVVS Kew

Your presence can brighten someone’s day and help reduce loneliness, while giving you the chance to form meaningful connections and give back to the community.
💛What is ACVVS? 💛
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) connects volunteers with older people who may be socially isolated, creating regular friendship, companionship and meaningful connection.
Brighten someone’s day while making a meaningful difference to their life. Our friendship program connects volunteers with aged care residents for friendly, one-on-one visits that foster companionship, connection and happiness.
Here is just one of the wonderful people who would love to welcome you into their week:
Kel enjoys reading, listening to music and watching romantic movies. She is friendly and able to engage in conversations and make her own decisions. Kel lives with dementia and uses a wheelchair, and would enjoy the companionship of a friendly volunteer for relaxed chats and shared interests.
What You’ll Do:
- Share a cup of coffee and a quiet chat
- Engage in meaningful conversation
- Take a stroll in the garden
- Read books, play cards, or work on puzzles
- Listen to their favourite music
Who may be the right fit?
Someone who is gentle, reliable and compassionate, and who feels comfortable providing one-to-one companionship in an aged care environment.
The practical bits
- You must be 18 years or over.
- A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check is required and is organised and funded by St Vincent's.
- Visits are approximately one hour, at least once a fortnight, with a minimum of 20 visits over 12 months.
- We are looking for someone who can visit consistently and build an ongoing, respectful connection.
Why small moments count
Many people experience social isolation while living in aged care. Connection is often built through ordinary moments repeated over time. A familiar person to share those moments with can make a real difference.
Don’t live near Kew? There are volunteer opportunities available across Melbourne, including the northern, eastern, western and southern suburbs. For more information, [email protected]
