Help shape the 2027 Canberra Coast Mother’s Day Classic

The Mother’s Day Classic brings communities across Australia together each Mother’s Day to walk, run and raise funds for breast and ovarian cancer research. It is also a day to remember, celebrate and stand alongside those impacted by breast and ovarian cancer.

At the heart of every Mother’s Day Classic is the local community that brings it to life.

For our 2027 Canberra Mother’s Day Classic, we’re welcoming new volunteers to join our Community Engagement Committee — a group of local people who bring their skills, ideas and community connections together to help shape and strengthen the event.

Working alongside the local Event Manager and MDC National Office, the Committee will help grow participation, strengthen community connections, support volunteers, build local partnerships and create a welcoming and memorable event experience.

It’s an opportunity to use your skills in a meaningful way, meet other community-minded people, build local connections and help shape an event that means so much to people in your community.

Find the role that fits you

We’re currently looking for volunteers interested in:

• Local Sponsorships Lead – build relationships with local businesses and help grow appropriate local sponsorship and in-kind support.
• Event Day Fundraising Lead – help develop local fundraising opportunities, source fundraising support and bring engaging fundraising activities to life on event day.

You don’t need to know which role is right for you before getting in touch. If you’re interested in being involved but aren’t sure where you’d fit, we’d still love to hear from you.

You might be a great fit if you…

• enjoy connecting with people and contributing as part of a team
• are comfortable taking ownership of something you’ve agreed to do
• have local knowledge, skills, ideas or connections — or are enthusiastic about developing them
• enjoy contributing to your community
• would like to use your skills and experience to support a meaningful cause.

You don’t need previous experience with the Mother’s Day Classic or to have been part of a committee before. We’re interested in the skills, interests and experience you can bring from your work, volunteering, community involvement or everyday life.

What you can expect from us

You won’t be expected to figure things out on your own. MDC will provide induction, clear role guidance, practical tools and resources, and ongoing support from your local Event Manager and MDC National Office.

Depending on your role, you’ll also have access to specialist support across volunteering, marketing, partnerships, fundraising and event delivery.
