Volunteer English Conversation Group Facilitator
Mt Gravatt Community Centre is seeking a friendly, patient and enthusiastic volunteer to facilitate our English Conversation Group.
The group supports people who are new to Australia to build their confidence in speaking and understanding English in a relaxed and welcoming environment. The focus is on everyday conversation, Australian expressions and language, and helping participants feel more comfortable communicating in their daily lives.
Key duties include:
- Facilitating friendly and inclusive English conversation sessions.
- Encouraging participants to practise speaking English in a relaxed environment.
- Helping participants understand Australian language, expressions, slang and common phrases.
- Supporting participants to improve their confidence with everyday communication.
- Planning simple conversation topics and activities appropriate for a range of English abilities.
- Creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable participating.
- Encouraging group discussion and interaction between participants.
Skills and experience required:
- A strong command of spoken English.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Patience, empathy and an understanding of people from different cultural backgrounds.
- Confidence in facilitating small group discussions.
- An interest in supporting people who are new to Australia.
- Previous teaching or facilitation experience would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Application requirements:
Volunteers will need to complete our volunteer application and participate in an informal interview. A Working with Children Check/Blue Card will be required.
