Lifeline Bookfair Volunteer - South Strathfield - #249646

Lifeline Macarthur and Western Sydney

Advertised by The Centre for Volunteering

What volunteer help is needed?

We are looking for volunteers to help us prepare for the Book Fair from October 2026 until May 2027. Book sorting and preparation.

Volunteers are generally needed on Thursdays between 10am and 2pm to:

• Sort donated books into individual categories • Place books onto shelves ready for pricing • Help organise and prepare books for the sale • Pack priced books into crates ready for the Book Fair

The actual days will vary depending on when donated books arrive. Volunteers will be advised at least one week in advance when their help is required.

Attendance is flexible! You can let us know which days you are available. Volunteers are welcome to attend as frequently as they wish, although ideally we are looking for people who can commit to at least one day per month.

Help with the Book Fair -

Volunteers will be needed to help set up the display tables on Friday 14 May 2027, as well as during the Book Fair on Saturday 15 May and Sunday 16 May.

Further details about these opportunities will be provided closer to the event.

What will I be doing?

The main preparation work involves sorting books into different categories. Books are then priced by experienced volunteers and packed into crates ready for the Book Fair.

You will need to be comfortable identifying which category a book belongs to and walking around the warehouse to place books on shelves. Being able to carry a small number of books at a time is helpful, but heavy lifting is not required.

Toilet and kitchen facilities are located up a flight of stairs, so some mobility is required.

No previous book sorting experience is necessary. A number of volunteers from Lifeline’s Hornsby and Lindfield book depots are already involved and will provide training and support.

Impact of this role: Volunteers are essential to the success of the Book Fair, helping us sort, organise and prepare thousands of books for sale. Their support allows Lifeline staff to focus on coordinating the event while ensuring books are ready for customers when the fair opens in May 2027. Assistance from volunteers in the lead up and on the weekend of the event will contribute to a successful event.

Funds raised through the Book Fair will directly support Lifeline’s services and help us continue providing vital support to people experiencing crisis and emotional distress in our community.

Benefits: Volunteering at the Book Fair provides an opportunity to meet new people and connect with volunteers from other Lifeline Centres, while being part of a meaningful fundraising event.

Volunteers can enjoy the satisfaction of supporting Lifeline’s work and develop practical skills in sorting and organising books.

For those who enjoy books, it is also a great way to spend time around a wide range of titles while making a positive contribution to the community.
