Volunteer Walk Leader – Lavender Federation Walking Trail

Share your love of walking and help others discover the Lavender Trail

SA Recreation Trails Inc (SARTI), the volunteer organisation responsible for the Lavender Federation Walking Trail, is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced walker to join our team as a Volunteer Walk Leader.

This is an opportunity to lead enjoyable walks, meet other walkers and help people discover some of the beautiful landscapes and communities along the Lavender Federation Walking Trail.

About the role

Walks will be held at various locations along the Lavender Federation Walking Trail during the walking season, with walks at other suitable locations during summer.

SARTI already has an excellent collection of walking loops featuring the Lavender Trail, providing a great starting point for the role. There is also plenty of opportunity for creativity and for developing new walks and ideas.

The role could include:

  • Selecting and preparing suitable walking routes
  • Leading groups on Friday and/or weekend walks
  • Welcoming and encouraging participants
  • Helping create an enjoyable and safe walking experience
  • Exploring new walking opportunities along the Lavender Trail and elsewhere during summer

Support to get started

There is no expectation that a new volunteer will know everything from the outset.

An experienced Lavender Trail walker will assist with route selection and accompany the new Walk Leader in conducting walks initially, providing practical support and helping build confidence in the role.

What's in it for you?

This is an opportunity to:

  • Enjoy more time exploring some of South Australia's wonderful walking country
  • Meet like-minded people who enjoy walking and the outdoors
  • Share enthusiasm for the Lavender Trail with others
  • Discover new walking locations and develop new walking ideas
  • Develop leadership, organisation and group-management skills
  • Make a practical contribution to the work of a South Australian volunteer organisation

Most importantly, it is a chance to help other people discover and enjoy the Lavender Federation Walking Trail.

About you

The ideal volunteer will be an experienced and confident walker who enjoys walking with others and is comfortable taking responsibility for leading a group.

You will need:

  • Good walking experience and an enthusiasm for sharing it with others
  • A friendly, reliable and organised approach
  • A current driver's licence
  • An interest in exploring South Australia's walking trails

A current First Aid certificate is desirable but not essential.

Flexible volunteer opportunity

The amount of involvement can be tailored to the volunteer's interests, availability and skills. Between 5 and 15 hours per week of volunteer activity is available, depending on the level of involvement.

SARTI is a Centrelink Approved Volunteer Work Organisation, so this role may provide an opportunity for eligible participants to meet their mutual-obligation requirements while contributing to a worthwhile community organisation.

About SARTI
