✨ What is ACVVS? ✨
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) connects volunteers with older people who may be socially isolated, creating regular friendship, companionship and meaningful connection.
💜St Vincent's is looking for volunteers who share our commitment to compassion, excellence, justice and integrity, and who want to bring those values to life through genuine connection with older people.💜
Every friendship is unique. Some visits are full of conversation and laughter, while others are built around shared interests and simply enjoying each other's company.
Margaret is a warm and happy resident living in aged care in Sydney's Inner West who would greatly benefit from the companionship of a regular volunteer visitor. Margaret speaks very limited English, so a Serbian-speaking volunteer would be an ideal match and could help her feel more connected, understood, and at ease.
Margaret enjoys staying active, taking walks and talking about current affairs. With no family to visit Margaret, we are looking for a special volunteer who can share their time with Margert and help brighten her day.
🧩 What a Visit Could Look Like 🧩
• Chatting about fashion, beauty, and everyday life
• Sharing a cup of tea or coffee together
• Talking in Serbian and sharing cultural experiences
• Going for a gentle walk around the home or gardens
• Simply spending time together and building a meaningful friendship
🌈 Who Could Be a Great Fit? 🌈
Someone who is:
• Friendly, patient and reliable
• Interested in fashion, beauty, or social conversation
• Comfortable spending time with an older person from a culturally diverse background
• A Serbian speaker (preferred but not essential)
• Able to commit to regular visits
You do not need aged care experience. Your role is simply friendship and companionship.
The Practical Bits
• You must be 18 years or over.
• A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check is required and is organised and funded by St Vincent's.
• Visits are approximately 30 minutes to one hour, at least once a fortnight throughout the year.
• We are looking for someone who can build an ongoing, respectful connection.
💝Your friendship could help brighten Margaret's days and bring meaningful connection into her life.💝
We also have volunteer opportunities across Sydney including in Roseville, Auburn, Potts Point, Jannali and more! For more information call Kylie on 0440 101 290
