Talk Rugby League with John

Wesley Mission

Logo for Wesley Mission

Many older people living at home miss having someone who visits just bringing friendship with them.

If you love rugby league, you will have an instant connection with John. He is an Eels fan which you will love or hate!, Together you can review the latest games, or talk about legendary team moments.

John has a rich history as a former firefighter, lifesaver, and cane cutter. You will get to hear firsthand accounts of bravery, community service, and hard physical labour from a bygone era.

Help keep John’s memory strong. By looking at old photos or talking about his past occupations, you are actively helping John stimulate his cognitive functions and retain a sense of identity.

Head out for a drive together: grab a coffee, visit a local park, or catch a glimpse of the beach or a local footy field.

We're looking for a kind and reliable volunteer who can commit to regular visits and enjoys connecting with others through shared interests, practical activities and conversation.

As a Wesley volunteer, you'll receive:

  • Ongoing support from your Wesley Volunteer Coordinator
  • Training and guidance to help you get started
  • A carefully considered match
  • Invitations to volunteer recognition and celebration events

If you can spare an hour a fortnight, we'd love to hear from you.

Sometimes the best way to build a friendship is to start with a shared interest.
