Make a Difference in an Older Person’s Life | Hume Region

Ageing with Grace

Logo for Ageing with Grace

Ageing with Grace is recruiting volunteers for the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS).

ACVVS connects volunteers with older people who would benefit from greater social connection. As a volunteer visitor, you will be matched with an older person based on location, interests, personality and availability.

Visits are relaxed and centred around companionship. You might:

  • Have a coffee and a chat
  • Share stories and common interests
  • Go for a gentle walk
  • Talk about gardening, travel, sport or everyday life
  • Play cards or games
  • Simply spend some quality time together

You are not expected to provide personal care, clinical support, cleaning or other support-worker duties.

We currently have older people waiting in the Hume region, including:

Barmah – Someone who enjoys footy, travel, camping, scouts and a good conversation.

Benloch – A keen gardener who enjoys roses, antiques, stamp collecting, animals and sitting down for a coffee and chat.

Tatura – Enjoys gardening, getting out for coffee and talking about life.

Beechworth – Would value a reliable and consistent visitor for conversation and companionship.

Numurkah – Enjoys conversation and connecting with someone outside their usual environment.

Beveridge – Looking for regular companionship and social connection. An Urdu-speaking volunteer would be especially valuable for this match.

Who are we looking for?

You don’t need previous aged care experience. We’re looking for people who are:

  • Friendly and respectful
  • Good listeners
  • Reliable and able to maintain regular contact
  • Comfortable building a genuine relationship with an older person
  • Willing to complete the required screening and onboarding

People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Commitment

Ideally, volunteers visit their matched person regularly, approximately fortnightly, at a mutually suitable time.

We understand that volunteers have work, study, family and other commitments, so visits can be arranged around your availability.
