For over 60 years, Heart Foundation has been the trusted peak body working to improve the prevention, detection and support of heart disease for all Australians. Heart Foundation does this through research, advocacy, public awareness, resources and support for health professionals.

Heart Foundation Walking is Australia’s largest free walking network. It provides a social and easy way for people to enjoy regular physical activity while connecting with others in their community.

Walking as part of a group can support both physical and mental wellbeing while helping people feel more connected locally.

Position description

Heart Foundation is looking for a Volunteer Walk Organiser to lead the weekly walking group at commUnity+ Neighbourhood House in Deer Park.

The volunteer will help create a welcoming environment where community members can enjoy walking, meet others and stay active.

Some of the key tasks include:

  • Setting up the walking group with support from the Heart Foundation
  • Planning a safe walking route, with resources provided
  • Promoting the walk to encourage new walkers
  • Attending walks and welcoming participants
  • Recording attendance after walks

Skills and qualities required

  • Reliable, punctual and organised
  • Friendly and comfortable communicating with different people
  • Comfortable helping lead a group
  • No previous experience is required. Training and support will be provided.

Location: commUnity+ Neighbourhood House, 822 Ballarat Rd, Deer Park, VIC 3023

Time and commitment requirement

  • Walking frequency and duration can vary, with walks generally ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours
  • Some additional time is required for administration, including communicating with walkers and recording attendance
  • Ongoing commitment of more than 6 months preferred

Other requirements

  • Complete basic online training (approx. 15 minutes)
  • National Police History Check, cost covered by the Heart Foundation
  • Working with Children Check
