Your presence can brighten someone’s day and help reduce loneliness, while giving you the chance to form meaningful connections and give back to the community.

đź’›What is ACVVS? đź’›

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) connects volunteers with older people who may be socially isolated, creating regular friendship, companionship and meaningful connection.

Brighten someone’s day while making a meaningful difference to their life. Our friendship program connects volunteers with aged care residents for friendly, one-on-one visits that foster companionship, connection and happiness.

Here is just one of the wonderful people who would love to welcome you into their week:
Lori is a lovely resident with a fascinating history, having been involved in horse racing and working in a number of roles, including with the Trade Unions and Regional Victoria Development. She enjoys music and art and would benefit from a friendly companion to spend some quiet one-on-one time with her.

Lori lives with Parkinson’s disease and hearing difficulties. While she no longer communicates verbally, she enjoys the comfort and connection of having someone there to watch a movie, read together or listen to music.

What You’ll Do:

  • Share a cup of coffee and a quiet chat
  • Engage in meaningful conversation
  • Take a stroll in the garden
  • Read books, play cards, or work on puzzles
  • Listen to their favourite music

Who may be the right fit?

Someone who is gentle, reliable and compassionate, and who feels comfortable providing one-to-one companionship in an aged care environment.

The practical bits

  • You must be 18 years or over.
  • A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check is required and is organised and funded by St Vincent's.
  • Visits are approximately one hour, at least once a fortnight, with a minimum of 20 visits over 12 months.
  • We are looking for someone who can visit consistently and build an ongoing, respectful connection.

Why small moments count

Many people experience social isolation while living in aged care. Connection is often built through ordinary moments repeated over time. A familiar person to share those moments with can make a real difference.
