Insect Count & Bushcare ~ Magazine Creek Wetlands! (Thurs 19th Nov)
Conservation Volunteers Australia
Over four weeks away
Join CVA and the Port Environment Centre for a morning of action and discovery at Magazine Creek Wetlands! We'll kick off the day with some bushcare, removing weeds and litter around this important wetland habitat. After this, Janice from PEC will provide a short introduction to the iNaturalist app and how you can get involved in citizen science! We'll take a walk around the wetlands with an invertebrate expert to look for insects and identify them using the app. Our findings will be uploaded as part of 'Bugs in My Backyard Week', where nature lovers across Australia head outside and uncover the wild, wonderful creatures that keep our world humming!
Enjoy morning tea with fellow nature lovers after your hard work.
If you would like any further information about this event or the project in general, please contact Rosie 0448 112 063 [email protected]
What will I be doing on the day?
All of our events begin with a safety induction and training from a CVA Team Leader. As part of the day, you will work under the supervision of our friendly team to help with weeding and removing litter. You will participate in citizen science, counting invertebrates and uploading findings to the iNaturalist app.
What skills or experience do I need? No prior experience is necessary! Our Team Leaders will provide volunteers with safety inductions and training in the activity. A can-do attitude and willingness to work with others are all the skills you need to be a Conservation Volunteer.
All are welcome - our events are suitable for most age groups (ages 10 - 85). Children aged 3-14 must be directly supervised by a parent or legal guardian.
A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER:
- Once you send through your application via Seek, we will be in touch with registration details. Spaces are limited, and they do fill up!
- No previous experience is required. We will provide you with all the know-how on site.
- You need to make your own way to and from the project site. We do not offer transport.
- We can provide you with a certificate of appreciation for coming along and helping out (this looks great on a resume!)
