Make a Difference – Volunteer Visitor for an Older Gentleman in Garran

Ageing with Grace is looking for a patient and friendly volunteer to provide companionship to a gentleman living in a residential aged care home in Garran.
He would appreciate having someone visit to spend some time with him, share some of the latest news, listen to music together or talk about his interests, including horse racing. A coffee and some friendly company would be a lovely way to spend time together.
He is experiencing some cognitive decline and can sometimes find it difficult to express himself verbally. He may need a little extra time and patience to communicate, and shorter conversations would suit him best. As his mobility is also very limited, visits would focus on sitting together and enjoying some one-on-one company.
The right volunteer doesn't need to plan activities or fill every moment with conversation. Simply being there, sharing a coffee, listening and providing regular companionship can make a real difference to someone experiencing loneliness and social isolation.
No volunteer visitor experience in aged care is required. We are looking for someone who is kind, patient and would value the opportunity to build a genuine connection and make a difference in an older person’s life.
Visits are generally fortnightly, at a mutually suitable time. Even spending around 30 minutes together can provide meaningful companionship and make a real difference to his day.
If you would like to make a meaningful difference through regular companionship, we would love to hear from you.
