Animal Ethics Committee Member (Lay person)

The CDU AEC oversees research and teaching that involves animals ensuring compliance with animal welfare standards. The AEC requires a layperson (Category D Member).
The role
The Category D member is a person not employed/associated with CDU, who has never have been involved in research or teaching involving animals, and who does not fit the criteria of any other category. Members participate in meetings to review activities involving animals. The AEC meets eight times per year. Meetings are of approximately four hours duration and occur during business hours. The AEC also undertakes a number of inspections of animal facilities.
Need to know
Members are appointed for a term of three years, with a strong preference for local candidates.
You should have reasonable computer skills.

Time commitment
The committee meets eight times each year, approximately every six weeks. Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 9 am until approximately 1pm, depending on the number and complexity of applications being considered.
Members should also allow three-six hours for reading and preparation before each meeting.
Meetings are held at CDU’s Casuarina campus.
