Co-opted Member - Management Committee

Key responsibilities
- Contribute to management committee discussions by bringing relevant skills, knowledge, lived experience, professional expertise or community perspectives.
- Support the management committee to consider the needs, strengths and experiences of LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people and communities across Queensland.
- Participate in management committee meetings, planning discussions and decision-making processes as agreed.
- Provide advice, input or support on specific projects, governance matters, policy areas, community engagement, partnerships, advocacy, risk, service quality or organisational development, depending on the member’s skills and interests.
- Review papers, reports, policies and correspondence before meetings and contribute thoughtful feedback.
- Support respectful, inclusive and trauma-informed governance that reflects Diverse Voices’ values and community-led purpose.
- Declare and appropriately manage any actual, potential or perceived conflicts of interest.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle organisational, community and personal information appropriately.
- Work collaboratively with the Chairperson, management committee members, Executive Director, staff, volunteers and community representatives.
Governance and compliance expectations
As a management committee member, the Co-opted Member is expected to act with reasonable care and diligence, act honestly and in the best interests of Diverse Voices and its purposes, manage conflicts of interest, avoid misuse of position or information, maintain confidentiality and support effective, inclusive and accountable governance.
The Co-opted Member is expected to understand and comply with the organisation’s constitution or rules, code of conduct, policies, delegations and relevant legal and regulatory obligations that apply to their role.
Key Skills & Experience
- Commitment to the safety, dignity, inclusion and leadership of LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities.
- Lived experience as part of LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities.
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, not-for-profit governance in an Australian and Queensland context.
- Skills, knowledge or experience relevant to Diverse Voices’ work, such as community engagement, policy and governance, finance, legal, human services, counselling, domestic, family and sexual violence, suicide prevention, fundraising, communications, public policy, advocacy, lived experience leadership, cultural safety, accessibility or organisational development.
- Commitment to anti-discrimination, cultural safety, accessibility, trauma-informed practice and intersectional approaches.
- Ability to contribute constructively to meetings, ask thoughtful questions and consider information from multiple perspectives.
- Integrity, reliability, respect for confidentiality and willingness to seek guidance or professional advice when needed.
- Ability to work respectfully with management committee members, staff, volunteers, community members, funders and external advisers.
