Volunteer - Whale Beach Surf Lifesaving Club

JOIN THE TEAM KEEPING WHALE BEACH SAFE
Whale Beach Surf Life Saving Club is looking for new volunteers to join our lifesaving team. No previous Surf Life Saving experience is needed — we’ll provide the training, support and qualifications to get you started.
We’re a community-based volunteer organisation on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with one simple purpose: we are lifesavers. Our goal is zero preventable deaths at Whale Beach, and our volunteers make that possible.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Once trained, you’ll join our patrol team and help keep Whale Beach safe. This can include:
• Patrolling the beach and identifying hazards
• Helping swimmers and beachgoers stay safe
• Performing rescues and assisting in emergencies
• Providing first aid and CPR
• Setting up and operating lifesaving equipment
• Supporting rescue boats and other lifesaving operations
• Working alongside experienced lifesavers and Patrol Captains
• Helping educate the public about beach safety
You can also continue developing into areas such as first aid, advanced resuscitation, IRB driving and crewing, UAV/drone operations, emergency response, training and leadership.
NO EXPERIENCE? NO PROBLEM.
We’ll teach you what you need to know.
Training covers surf awareness, beach safety, rescue techniques, first aid, CPR and working as part of a lifesaving patrol.
Our next course starts 1 November and runs for approximately six weeks, with training on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings.
FLEXIBLE VOLUNTEERING
We know work, study, family and life can make volunteering difficult, so Whale Beach uses Flexible Patrolling.
Instead of being locked into the same patrol team and weekend all season, you choose available shifts that work around your life.
Patrols operate on weekends and public holidays from late September to the end of April, with full-day and half-day options available.
MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PERKS
Joining Whale Beach is about much more than joining a patrol roster. You become part of our Club and community, with benefits including:
• Free beachfront accommodation at the Whale Beach clubhouse for eligible members
• Access to our members’ gym
• Northern Beaches Council beach parking sticker for eligible non-ratepayers
• Member discounts at The Deck café
• Free lunch while on patrol
• Access to our newly renovated beachfront clubhouse and member spaces
• Social events, activities and opportunities to meet other members
• Ongoing training and development opportunities
• Opportunities to gain additional Surf Life Saving qualifications
Our clubhouse is a big part of life at Whale Beach. Members can use the facilities, train, socialise, stay overnight and enjoy being part of the Whale Beach community.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
You don’t need to be an elite athlete or experienced lifesaver. We’re looking for people who are willing to learn, help their community, be part of a team and have a go.
A great patrol needs people with different skills, abilities and interests. Surf Life Saving isn’t only for the strongest swimmers — there are many different ways to contribute.
WHAT WILL YOU GET OUT OF IT?
As a Whale Beach volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to:
• Gain valuable Surf Life Saving qualifications
• Learn CPR, first aid and emergency response skills
• Build confidence in and around the ocean
• Develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills
• Gain practical experience for your résumé
• Meet new people and become part of a welcoming community
• Improve your fitness and ocean skills
• Progress into specialist lifesaving and leadership roles
Most importantly, the time you give directly contributes to keeping Whale Beach open, patrolled and safe.
THERE’S A PLACE FOR EVERYONE
Whether you want to become a confident lifesaver, specialise in first aid, crew or drive a rescue boat, operate a drone, develop leadership skills or simply give back to your community, we can help you find your pathway.
