Do You Speak Macedonian? Become an Older Friend

Could you spare an hour a week or even a fortnight to brighten someone’s day?

We’re looking for a warm, friendly Macedonian-speaking volunteer to visit an older person living in a residential care facility in Padstow Heights.

For someone who may be experiencing social isolation, having a familiar face to look forward to can mean the world. Your visits are an opportunity to share conversation, laughter, stories and the comfort of speaking a language that feels like home.

What Could Your Visits Look Like?

There’s no set agenda — just come as you are and spend time together. You might:

  • Have a relaxed conversation in Macedonian
  • Share memories and stories about life, family and culture
  • Enjoy some fresh air together outdoors
  • Take a gentle walk around the grounds
  • Chat over a cup of tea or coffee
  • Enjoy activities based on their interests and preferences

Sometimes, it’s the simplest moments that mean the most.

By sharing your language, culture and time, you can help someone feel heard, valued and connected. And along the way, you may find yourself building a genuine friendship.

Make Your Time Count

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) helps older people reduce social isolation and develop meaningful friendships through regular visits.

You don’t need previous volunteering experience. You just need to be friendly, reliable and willing to listen.

One hour. One conversation. One new friendship.

If you speak Macedonian and would love to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life, we’d love to hear from you.
