❤️ Become a Volunteer Visitor – Share Polish Language, Culture & Friendship
Your time can make a real difference.
We are looking for a friendly and caring Polish-speaking volunteer to visit an older person who may be experiencing social isolation. Your regular visits can provide something incredibly valuable — conversation, companionship and a connection to language and culture. You don't need to be an aged care professional or have previous volunteering experience. What matters most is that you are: Kind • Reliable • Patient • Respectful • A good listener
🌿 What you'll do
As a Volunteer Visitor, you will:
- Visit an older person regularly and provide friendship and companionship
- Enjoy conversations in Polish and/or English
- Share language, culture, stories, interests and everyday experiences
- Build a meaningful and respectful connection over time
- Help reduce social isolation and bring a friendly face to someone's day
🤝 Your commitment
Our volunteers are expected to:
- Commit to at least 20 visits per year
- Complete required training and screening
- Obtain the required police clearance and checks
- Attend agreed visits and communicate regularly with the ACVVS team
- Respect each person's privacy, culture, identity and personal boundaries
- Follow Umbrella and ACVVS safeguarding and confidentiality requirements
- Stay within the volunteer role, providing companionship and social connection – not personal or clinical care
💚 You'll be supported
You won't be doing it alone. Umbrella has a community of 100+ ACVVS volunteers providing regular companionship and social support to older people. You'll receive training, guidance and ongoing support from the ACVVS team throughout your volunteering journey. You'll also have opportunities to connect with other volunteers and participate in community and wellbeing activities.
🌟 Your language and friendship can make a difference
For an older person, being able to speak their first language, share familiar stories or simply have someone who understands their cultural background can be incredibly meaningful. If you speak Polish and have some time to share, your friendship could brighten someone's day and make a lasting difference.
