Community Coach – Youth Leadership & Mentoring

Educar Foundation / Max Potential

Could you make a difference in a young person's life while developing your own leadership and coaching skills?

Max Potential is inviting people from local businesses, community organisations and the wider community in the areas where our programs are delivered to volunteer as Community Coaches in our 2027 youth leadership programs.

Max Potential is an established community leadership development program that brings together local young people and volunteer Community Coaches. Through individual coaching, interactive workshops and youth-led community projects, we help young people build confidence, develop leadership skills, recognise their strengths and discover what they can achieve.

Your role as a Community Coach

You will be matched with a local Year 10 or 11 student and support them throughout their Max Potential journey.

Your role is not to tell a young person what to do or provide all the answers. Instead, you will listen, ask thoughtful questions, encourage reflection and help them set and work towards their own goals.

As a Community Coach, you will:

  • Participate in structured coach training and program workshops (in-person at the program location).
  • Meet regularly with your matched young person for approximately eight one-hour coaching conversations (combination of in-person and online).
  • Help them identify strengths, develop confidence and work towards meaningful personal goals.
  • Encourage their leadership and support their thinking as they develop a youth-led Community Service Project.
  • Participate in professional coaching sessions with a professional coach to strengthen your own skills and development.
  • Celebrate their achievements alongside families, schools, local businesses and community supporters.

What will you gain?

Volunteering as a Community Coach is also an opportunity to invest in yourself.

You will receive professional coach training and individual coaching support, develop valuable communication and leadership skills, broaden your local networks and gain practical experience in supporting and empowering others.

Many of the skills developed through Max Potential are directly transferable to the workplace, particularly in leadership, management, teamwork and building positive relationships.

Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to make a lasting difference in a young person's life.

Who are we looking for?

You don't need to be a teacher, mentor or experienced coach.

We welcome people from business, community organisations, professional services, trades, government and all walks of life.

We're looking for people who are curious, good listeners, open to learning, reliable and committed to helping young people realise their potential.

About Max Potential

Max Potential has been delivered in NSW communities for over two decades, connecting local schools, businesses and community members to invest in the next generation of local young people.

The program culminates in a community celebration where young people share their personal growth and the Community Service Projects they have developed to address issues that matter to them.
