As an Emergency Department Volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to:

Working under the guidance of nursing staff, you will:
- Spend time with patients who would benefit from a friendly conversation or a listening ear.
- Offer refreshments to family members and visitors when appropriate.
- Help create a welcoming and supportive environment within the Emergency Department.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and organised department by following all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.
Volunteers also assist the department by helping with a variety of practical tasks, including:
- Organising and separating stock supplies in the main storeroom.
- Folding and shelving disposable sheets and bags.
- Restocking gloves and personal protective equipment (PPE) outside patient rooms.
- Refilling blanket warmer stations.
- Restocking hand sanitiser dispensers throughout the department.
- Checking and replenishing kitchen supplies.
- Assisting with other non-clinical tasks as required.
These behind-the-scenes tasks help ensure clinical staff have the supplies they need to provide the best possible patient care. To ensure the safety of everyone in the Emergency Department, volunteers are expected to follow all hospital policies and infection prevention procedures. Volunteers:
- Do not enter patient cubicles accompanied by security unless specifically requested and approved by nursing staff.
- Do not enter patient areas displaying infection control signage.
- Must follow all hand hygiene and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements at all times.
We're looking for people who are
- Compassionate, friendly and approachable.

- Reliable and able to use initiative.
- Comfortable taking direction from hospital staff.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable in a busy and fast-paced hospital environment.
- Able to safely bend and lift light items (up to 6kg).
- Respectful, adaptable and able to connect with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
