Help create safe futures for women and children escaping domestic and family violence

Great Lakes Women's Shelter is seeking passionate and skilled leaders to join our Board of Directors and help guide our organisation through its next stage of growth and impact.  We are particularly interested in volunteers willing to step up to Executive positions on the Board.

As a community-based, not-for-profit organisation, we provide safe accommodation and support services to women and children experiencing homelessness and domestic and family violence. Our purpose is simple but powerful: to ensure women and children can live safely, recover from trauma, and build independent futures.

We are looking for people who share our commitment to social justice, gender equality, and strong governance.

Passion, enthusiasm and time to commit to the cause are the main ingredients but we also welcome those with experience in:

  • Legal and compliance
  • Community services or homelessness
  • Domestic and family violence sector
  • Human resources and workforce strategy
  • Risk management
  • Fundraising, philanthropy or business development

Previous board experience is welcomed but not essential. We encourage applications from individuals with diverse professional and lived experiences.

What you will contribute

As a Board Director, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight
  • Support good governance and organisational sustainability
  • Monitor risk, performance and compliance
  • Champion the mission and values of the organisation
  • Help strengthen services that improve outcomes for women and children
