Advertised by Volunteering WAAbout Give Write Give Write promotes educational equity and environmental sustainability by collecting and redistributing new and gently used stationery to disadvantaged students across Western Australia — ensuring children have the basic tools they need to participate and thrive at school. From its head office in Subiaco and its regional hubs, Give Write supports 12,000 students across WA, distributing $400,000 worth of school supplies and diverting 12 tonnes from landfill each year. About the role We are looking for an individual keen to make a difference to underprivileged children in their education and to promote the vision of Give Write. The Board governs the organisation, provides strategic direction, and oversees the financial sustainability of Give Write. This is a strategic role. Our CEO and team look after day-to-day operations, so Directors can focus on the big picture: strategy, governance and making sure we can keep reaching more students. The Board currently meets three times a year, with meeting dates set ahead of time. What you'll do - Prepare and attend Board meetings, held three times a year with dates set well ahead - Help set and review Give Write's strategic direction - Oversee governance, risk management and financial performance - Help make sure we meet our ACNC and WA charity obligations - Support the CEO through constructive advice and challenge, while respecting governance boundaries - Act as an ambassador for Give Write What we're looking for We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the not-for-profit sector and shares the values of Give Write. Applicants should be willing to actively engage with employees, volunteers and other stakeholders, and commit the time required to fulfil the role — including board meetings, pre-reading and preparation, and project work outside of scheduled meetings. Additional skills and requirements:
- Previous board experience (desired but not essential)
- An understanding of corporate governance of a registered charity
- Financial acumen — able to read and interpret financial statements and understand the Board's obligations around financial sustainability and solvency
- Strong communication, collaboration and decision-making skills
- Sound judgement and a high level of personal integrity
- Experience in, or exposure to, the education or environmental sector (desired but not necessary)
- An existing network that could benefit Give Write (desired but not necessary)
- Willingness to obtain a National Police Clearance
- Resides within WA
