Help shape the future of disability advocacy

Do you believe that people with disability deserve to be valued, respected and included in their communities? Would you like to contribute your skills and experience to an organisation working to make that a reality?

North East Citizen Advocacy Inc (NECA) is a community-based organisation committed to promoting the rights, interests and social inclusion of people with disability through advocacy.

We are seeking a committed volunteer to join our Committee of Management and contribute to the leadership, governance and future direction of the organisation.

What does the role involve?

As a Committee of Management member, you will work collaboratively with other committee members and the Executive Officer to help ensure NECA remains effective, accountable and focused on its purpose.

Your contribution may include:

  • Participating in committee meetings and contributing to informed decision-making.

  • Providing strategic direction and helping shape the organisation's priorities.

  • Supporting good governance, financial oversight, risk management and organisational accountability.

  • Bringing an independent perspective, constructive questions and sound judgement to discussions.

  • Supporting the long-term sustainability and development of the organisation.

  • Helping strengthen NECA's connections with the wider community

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in the purpose of NECA and willing to take an active, responsible role in its governance.

You will bring:

  • A willingness to prepare for meetings, participate in discussions and follow through on commitments.

  • The ability to think strategically, consider different perspectives and work constructively with others.

  • A responsible, collaborative approach and respect for confidentiality.

  • A commitment to the rights, dignity, autonomy and inclusion of people with disability.

Experience in governance, finance, accounting, law, business management, community services, disability advocacy, fundraising or organisational development would be valuable. However, we are equally interested in people with relevant life experience, community connections and a genuine capacity to contribute.

What does the commitment look like?

This is a voluntary governance position, not a paid role. It requires regular participation in committee meetings, preparation between meetings and a willingness to contribute to the organisation's ongoing development.

We are looking for someone who is curious, willing to learn, prepared to ask questions and committed to making a meaningful contribution. This role will suit someone who values preparation, constructive discussion, collective responsibility and ongoing organisational development.

Committee members have an important responsibility to act in NECA's interests, exercise due care and judgement, and work collectively rather than individually directing the organisation's day-to-day operations.

Why join NECA?

This is an opportunity to contribute to an organisation with a strong community purpose and help sustain work that supports people with disability to have greater voice, choice, rights and inclusion.

You will work alongside people who care about making a difference and whose collective contribution can help shape the organisation's future.

If you have the interest, judgement and commitment to contribute to NECA's governance, we would welcome an expression of interest.

NECA is committed to appointing committee members who are well suited to the role and who will make a considered, active contribution to the organisation. Expressions of interest will be assessed on the applicant's suitability, commitment and capacity to contribute.
