For a mum fighting to get her children home, a car can be everything. It gets her to Children's Court, rehab, contact visits and appointments. When it breaks down, so can her progress. The same goes for our volunteers, who use their cars to collect donations and support mums.
We're looking for a mechanic who can help keep these cars on the road. We're honest about it: our funding is very limited. We can cover parts and approved costs, and any volunteer time, discounted rates, help sourcing affordable parts or simple advice would make a huge difference. No harm in asking, right?
What You'll Be Doing:
- Looking at cars belonging to our volunteers and the mums we support
- Doing basic servicing and repairs, or giving honest advice on what's needed
- Helping with roadworthy checks or pointing us in the right direction
- Helping us find affordable or donated parts
What You'll Gain:
- Using your trade skills to make a real, practical difference
- Recognition as a supporter of Tanya's Home, if you'd like it
- Being part of a friendly team that genuinely appreciates you
- Knowing you helped a mum get to court, rehab or her kids
Who We'd Love to Hear From:
- Qualified mechanics, whether working, semi-retired or retired
- Local workshops willing to offer discounted rates or donate a few jobs
- Apprentices, working under supervision
- Anyone who knows their way around a car and wants to help
Give What You Can:
There's no minimum. Help with one car or a few. Whether it's an hour of advice or a job at your workshop, every bit helps.
Keeping Everyone Safe:
If you'll be working directly with mums, you'll need a National Police Check and a Working with Children Check, and we can help you apply for both. All jobs are arranged through Tanya's Home, and you can say no to any job.
About Tanya's Home:
Tanya's Home Limited is a Victorian charity founded from lived experience. We support mothers affected by addiction, family violence and other complex circumstances who are involved with Child Protection, and help them keep or reunify with their children. Our support includes advocacy, Children's Court support, treatment and rehabilitation pathways, peer support, transport and emergency essentials. We hold DGR and PBI status and are preparing to open our first supported home for mothers. We're small, growing and full of heart, and our volunteers are a real part of the team.
Your Impact:
A car that starts means a mum who makes it to court, gets to rehab, and turns up for her children. Your skills could help keep a family on track.
How to Apply:
Apply through SEEK Volunteer, or contact Georgina at [email protected] or on 0437 710 663. Not sure if you're the right fit? Apply anyway, or just get in touch for a chat. We'd love to hear from you.
We're recruiting for several roles at the moment and some overlap, so take a look at our other Tanya's Home opportunities on SEEK Volunteer too. If more than one appeals to you, let us know when you apply.
