Every week, generous people donate beds, children's clothing, school items and household essentials for mums working to bring their children home. Right now, it's all stacked up in our storage unit, which makes it hard to find the right item when a family needs it urgently.
We need someone handy to help build shelving in our storage unit in Cheltenham, so donations can be sorted, stored safely and found quickly. It's a one-off project, perfect for someone who likes a practical job, or a couple of mates or a workplace team who want to do something good together. No trade qualifications needed.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Measuring up and planning simple shelving for our storage unit
- Building or assembling shelves (new, flat-pack or donated materials)
- Helping organise the space so it's safe and easy to use
- Helping source donated timber or shelving, if you have contacts
What You'll Gain:
- A one-off project you can finish and be proud of
- Seeing your work used every single week
- A great team activity for friends, families or workplaces
- Being part of a friendly team that genuinely appreciates you
Who We'd Love to Hear From:
- Handy people, DIYers and retired tradies
- Apprentices or trade students
- Workplace or community groups looking for a volunteer day
- Hardware stores or businesses who might donate shelving
Give What You Can:
This is a one-off project. Come for a few hours, or help over a weekend. Several people can work on it together, so even an hour helps.
Good to Know:
Materials are covered, or donated if we can find them. This job is at our storage unit only, so you won't be working directly with the mums or children we support.
About Tanya's Home:
Tanya's Home Limited is a Victorian charity founded from lived experience. We support mothers affected by addiction, family violence and other complex circumstances who are involved with Child Protection, and help them keep or reunify with their children. Our support includes advocacy, Children's Court support, treatment and rehabilitation pathways, peer support, transport and emergency essentials. We hold DGR and PBI status and are preparing to open our first supported home for mothers. We're small, growing and full of heart, and our volunteers are a real part of the team.
Your Impact:
Good shelving means every donation can be found fast. When a mum suddenly needs a bed or school uniforms before her children come home, the right item is ready to go.
How to Apply:
Apply through SEEK Volunteer, or contact Georgina at [email protected] or on 0437 710 663. Not sure if you're the right fit? Apply anyway, or just get in touch for a chat. We'd love to hear from you.
