Sewing & Mending Volunteer – Help Keep the Fun Going!

Play Matters Toy Library & Therapy Centre

Logo for Play Matters Toy Library & Therapy Centre

Play Matters Toy Library is a community organisation helping local families access a wonderful range of toys that support children's learning, development and play.

Our collection includes over 1,400 toys, and like all well-loved things, some occasionally need a little TLC! We're looking for a sewing volunteer to help us repair and maintain fabric toys, dress-ups and other items so they can continue bringing joy to local families.

What you'll be doing:

  • Mending torn seams and repairing fabric toys and soft toys.

  • Repairing dress-ups, costumes and role-play accessories.

  • Fixing other fabric items that need a little attention.

  • Helping us extend the life of our toys and reduce unnecessary waste.

You'll be helping us keep our collection in great condition, ready for many more adventures!

How you can help:

We know everyone's availability is different, so we're happy to be flexible.

Ideally, you'd be able to take items home to repair in your own time and return them when they're ready. If you'd prefer to work on repairs at the toy library, we are happy to accomodate that option too.

There's no need to commit to regular shifts. You can help as your availability allows, tackling repairs each week, once a month, or even every other. We are open every Saturday, 9am to 12pm.

What we're looking for:

  • Someone with basic to confident sewing and mending skills.

  • A practical, resourceful approach to repairing things.

  • Someone who enjoys helping their local community.

  • A willingness to help us give well-loved toys a second life.

You don't need to be a professional seamstress! Whether you're handy with a sewing machine or enjoy simple hand-sewing repairs, your skills could make a real difference.

Why volunteer with us?

  • Make a meaningful contribution to local families and children's play.

  • Put your sewing skills to good use.

  • Help reduce waste by repairing rather than replacing.

  • Enjoy a flexible volunteering arrangement that fits around your life.

  • Support a friendly community organisation making play more accessible for families.

Interested?

If you enjoy sewing, mending and helping your community, we'd love to hear from you!

Help Play Matters Toy Library keep the fun going, one stitch at a time.
