Many older Australians experience loneliness and social isolation. For some, family and friends live far away. Others have lost loved ones or face barriers that make it difficult to stay socially connected. A regular visit from a volunteer can make a world of difference.
Through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), you can make a genuine difference by becoming a friend and companion to an older person in your community. Just one hour a week or fortnight can bring connection, conversation, and something special to look forward to.
As a Volunteer Visitor, you might?
- Enjoy a chat over a cup of tea / coffee
- Listen to and share life stories
- Go for a gentle walk
- Spend time outside together, soaking up the sun
- Play cards, board games, or complete a puzzle
- Listen to music together
- Share a hobby or interest
The best friendships often begin with a simple conversation.
We are looking for kind, reliable volunteers who can commit to regular visits and enjoy getting to know someone over time. No special skills or experience are required. Just a willingness to listen, share stories and be a friendly face.
As a Wesley volunteer, you'll receive:
- Ongoing support from your Wesley Volunteer Coordinator
- A carefully considered match with a resident
- Training and guidance to help you get started
- Invitations to volunteer recognition and celebration events
If you can spare an hour a week, or an hour a fortnight, we'd love to hear from you.
Sometimes the greatest gift is knowing someone will be back.
