Short on Time? You Can Still Help Your Community With Lions

You do not need endless spare time to make a difference in your community.

Lions brings local people together to help where help is needed, and not everyone contributes in the same way.

Some people volunteer regularly.

Others help occasionally.

Some can give a few hours at an event.

Others contribute a particular skill from time to time.

All of those contributions can matter.

Lions clubs across District 201N2 serve communities across parts of New South Wales and the ACT.

Start with a few hours

You do not need to commit to every activity.

Depending on your local Lions club and what is happening in your community, you might help with:

• a community event
• a fundraising activity
• event setup or pack up
• a local service project
• photography or social media
• administration
• a practical task
• community outreach
• planning or organising
• a project that interests you

Your first involvement may be only a few hours.

If you enjoy it, you can come back.

Working, studying or raising a family?

You are welcome.

Lions is not only for people with unlimited spare time.

People have different work, family, study and personal commitments.

The aim is to find ways for people to contribute that are realistic.

Activities may happen on weekdays, evenings or weekends depending on the local club and project.

No immediate project?

Sometimes a Lions club may not have a public service project happening the week you apply.

That does not mean your enquiry has to disappear.

Your first contact may instead be:

• a coffee with local Lions
• an informal conversation
• a social activity
• an introduction to the club
• information about an upcoming project

The important thing is making the connection.

Could volunteering become membership?

Absolutely.

Many people first discover Lions by helping with something practical.

If you enjoy the people, the service and the experience, we would also be pleased to talk with you about becoming a Lions member.

Membership can offer:

• ongoing community service
• friendship and connection
• opportunities to use your skills
• personal development
• leadership opportunities if they interest you
• involvement in causes that matter to you

There is no pressure to decide when you first volunteer.

Help in a way that works for you

Lions clubs are volunteer run and every club is different.

We will aim to connect you with a suitable Lions club near you and let the relationship develop from there.
