Health, Opportunity, Purpose and Empowerment Incorporated (HOPE Inc.)

I invite you to consider joining the management committee of HOPE Inc., a Cooktown-based charity working to improve opportunities, health and wellbeing for young people. We welcome positive, practical and community-minded people who would enjoy helping guide our future.

About HOPE

HOPE is a Public Benevolent Institution with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and an incorporated association registered in Queensland. Our work is guided by four priorities:

  • Health: nourishing food, healthy sleep, movement and safety.
  • Opportunity: access to experiences, learning and achievable challenges.
  • Purpose: meaningful goals and opportunities to contribute.
  • Empowerment: choice, practical skills, confidence and supportive relationships.

What we are doing

  1. Free family waterfront movie nights encourage community connection and provide opportunities for local services to engage with families.
  2. Accredited learning pathways, in partnership with registered training organisation DaVange Group, including Certificate I in Developing Independence and Certificate III in Community Services.
  3. Planned five-day wellbeing camps for young people from Cooktown and across Queensland, with a longer-term ambition to establish a health and wellbeing education centre.
  4. Educational experiences and support for government and non-government schools.

How you could contribute

We welcome committee members from anywhere in Australia who share our commitment to helping young people thrive. Meetings are held online, and your contribution would focus on governance, ideas and decision-making rather than delivering activities.

The volunteer committee meets every six weeks for around 1.5 hours, with participation by Microsoft Teams. Members contribute their experience, judgement and ideas to help HOPE grow responsibly and sustainably.
