SES Volunteer

Our community has faced significant challenges with recent fires and emergencies, and our dedicated SES volunteers have been on the front lines. But to keep things running, we need more hands. Not everyone can or wants to fight fires – and that’s okay. Emergency response relies on a wide range of roles, all of which are essential in protecting our community.

As an SES volunteer, you can assist in vital ways, from manning roadblocks and refilling water bombers to providing logistical support behind the scenes or working as a communications officer, logging every step of an operation. Whether you prefer an active, hands-on role in the field or contributing through critical desk-based tasks, there is a place for you. Every role is crucial in ensuring an effective emergency response, and we need people like you to step up and make a difference.

To join, you need to be: Willing and able to help in an emergency; Available when needed at short notice; A team player who can take instructions and comply, and; Able to pass a National Police Clearance (paid for by DFES) We welcome all genders, ages, and backgrounds—our team is as diverse as our community! To be fully prepared for emergency situations, SES volunteers attend regular training sessions and meetings. These take place every Tuesday at 1900 hours at the co-location facility on Brazier Street, with uniforms supplied. Volunteers are expected to attend at least two Tuesdays a month to maintain their skills and readiness. You can attend one of these training nights to get a feel for it and see if you would like to commit.

SES is looking for people who are in it for the long run as there can be many courses to do depending on what kind of role you specialise in. All of these skills and qualifications are transferable state and nation wide if you move around Australia. You can join another SES unit without having to go through any admin at the new place (apart from the induction of where things are).
