The Maritime Museum of Townsville aims be an excellent, vibrant and innovative museum that benefits Townsville's community and that extends knowledge and awareness of the need to conserve and interpret North Queensland's maritime heritage, conserve the region’s marine environment, promote the region’s maritime industries and enhance the awareness of being safe on the water. The Museum relies on visitors and their admission fees to make this possible. The receptionist is in this regard a very important volunteer position,
Volunteer Qualities
Interact with visitors. Outgoing, confident, able to inform, able to make them feel special and welcome.
Tasks
Assist in getting the museum ready for visitors: opening galleries, starting videos and other interactives, checking cash float, check the EFT equipment, welcome visitors, collect admission fees, manage small merchandise shop, basic cleaning of ablutions, close the museum.
Experience
Meet and interact with interesting, knowledgeable and unusual visitors. Expand their knowledge about maritime history. Gather confidence in interacting with customers. Being aware that the volunteer performs a significant role and contributes to the sustainability of the museum. Becoming part of a tight-knit crew of museum volunteers.
