Organisation description:

Australian Red Cross supports the community before, during and after emergencies, and provides services to those who are falling through the gaps, including those experiencing homelessness and loneliness. We also coordinate programs to support refugees, people seeking asylum, and those in immigration detention, and provide life-giving blood, plasma, transplantation, and biological products through Lifeblood.

Job description: The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is an initiative that involves volunteers visiting older people who are lonely or experiencing social isolation.

Each volunteer is matched with a compatible participant who they visit on a regular basis. Visits may involve any activities that both individuals enjoy, such as chatting over a cup of tea, playing a card game, or going for a walk.

Location: varied

Time required: 1 hour every fortnight

Commitment required: minimum of 12 months

Other requirements: National Police Check (conducted by Red Cross)

Other notes:

  • This role can be made available for people with a disability and with limited English.
  • This role can be made suitable for people with Centrelink requirement of 15 hours/fortnight volunteering.
