Sydney Heritage Fleet is a volunteer organisation dedicated to preserving, restoring and operating vessels which represent Australia's maritime history. They include Tall Ship James Craig, ferry Kanangra, steamship John Oxley, 1902 steam tug Waratah, 1902 VIP launch Lady Hopetoun, 1903 schooner Boomerang and several diesel motor launches. Our workshop is located at Rozelle Bay, nearby the light rail and buses, with some onsite parking.

Join our team of highly skilled trades people in our well-equipped machine shop. We seek a fully-trained and experienced engineering workshop Fitter and Machinist, able to work without close supervision to overhaul equipment and make new components for our boats.

No day is the same and you will be involved in overhauling all kinds of mechanical and hydraulic equipment, making parts, forming heavy hull plates, overhauling pumps, steam engines, electrical items, fabricating pipe work, etc.

It is what we call "a happy shed" where there are no cliques, no politics, and an atmosphere of mutual support. Ask a question and receive a cheerful answer. On your first day you will be warmly greeted and shown around to see what is going on. All ages and genders are welcome.

You will need ability to safely operate lathes, milling machines and drilling machines and equipment normally found in a mechanical repair facility. Machine tools include: • 18” Macson lathe • Engine lathe • Bridgeport knee milling machines • Textron (Bridgeport look-a-like) mill with CNC control (Mach 4 system) • Large knee type milling machine • Large radial drills • Pedestal drill Full range of hand and hand power tools. PPE is provided. Welding equipment and tradesman welders are on site.
