The program

The Police Call Outs Program supports young people in police interviews when a parent, guardian or other suitable adult is unavailable. Volunteers in this program are required to attend police interview on an ‘on-call’ basis to ensure that young people’s rights are respected and that they feel supported during this process.

The opportunity

For this role you will have the capability to interact positively with young people and provide non-judgemental support, whilst engaging professionally with the South Australian Police. It would be great if you have knowledge and experience working with the youth justice system, but it is not required.

The impact

As a Police Call Outs volunteer, you will provide support to young people in a challenging environment, whilst developing your communication and interpersonal skills to manage difficult situations.

Application requirements

  • For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised by Red Cross.

  • To submit this application, you will need to provide details of two professional references.

  • The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check. Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check.
