Driver / Jockey – Food Rescue & Delivery

"Geelong Foodshare"

Advertised by Volunteering Geelong

Turn a few hours of your time into practical support for people across our community. Geelong Foodshare’s Drivers and Jockeys play an important role in collecting donated and rescued food from local supermarkets and suppliers and delivering food to the community agencies we support across the Geelong region. Working alongside another volunteer or team member, you’ll head out on scheduled runs in a Geelong Foodshare vehicle, helping with food collections and deliveries throughout the day.

Depending on whether you join us as a Driver or Jockey, you may help with:

  • Driving a Geelong Foodshare vehicle on scheduled collection and delivery runs
  • Collecting donated and rescued food from supermarkets and local suppliers
  • Delivering food to community agencies across the Geelong region
  • Loading and unloading crates, boxes and food products
  • Checking collections and deliveries against the run schedule
  • Safely handling and transporting food
  • Keeping vehicles clean, tidy and ready for the next run
  • Assisting with general warehouse tasks between collection and delivery runs as required

You’ll be supported by the Geelong Foodshare team, with induction and on-the-job training provided. New volunteers will have the opportunity to learn the runs and processes alongside experienced team members. It’s a great role if you enjoy getting out and about, meeting people, working as part of a team and seeing the direct impact of the time you give.
