SKILLS EXPERIENCE

  • Volunteers need to have a love of animals and experience with having had pets in the past if not current is beneficial.
  • They need to be kind and have a warm and friendly manner. Respect for animals, a willingness to learn and to be guided by the direction of the pet owner.
  • The volunteer needs to have an interest in people, be non-judgemental, and have an appreciation and tolerance for diversity.

KEY ROLE The volunteer will spend time with the pet owner and also take their dog for a walk - this is normally about an hour in length, depending on how much time you have to spend with the pet owner. We would like the volunteer to also check the dogs water bowls and give them a brush if they need grooming - and other basics in animal care. We encourage our volunteers to spend some time with the pet owner as well as you might be the only person that is visiting them outside of their support services, and our pet owners have a genuine interest in who is also caring for their pet.

ABOUT OUR ORGANISATION Caloundra Community Centre has a commitment to inclusiveness and seeks to respond to and address the needs of the most socially and economically disadvantaged and discriminated groups in the community. The organisation’s primary objective is to enable people to work together in the building of a community that creates viable and sustainable supports through encouraging diversity and broad-based participation. As a community organisation, Caloundra Community Centre promotes collaborative partnerships with local and regional organisations and networks across the coast to meet and address local community need.

IMPACT You will be a part of a change in someone's life and the smile in someone's day. In many instances a volunteer is able to establish relationships in a more genuine way than if they were in a paid position. It is these genuine connections that are at the core of the Pets for Life program.

BLUE CARD REQUIREMENT Please be aware that you will be required to obtain a Volunteer Blue card that is free. If you already have a PAID Blue card because of your work, that is great also.

AGE REQUIREMENT Applicants are required to be a minimum of 18 years old to apply.
