The Volunteer South Canberra Community Markets Coordinator leads the planning, coordination and delivery of the South Canberra Community Markets.

Working in partnership with Lions Youth Haven and Galilee School, this role oversees market operations, including volunteer coordination, stallholder engagement and event logistics. The coordinator plays a key role in ensuring each market is safe, well-organised and welcoming, supporting local businesses, strengthening community connections and contributing to positive community outcomes.

The South Canberra Community Markets are run on the first Saturday of most months – excluding Canberra winter months and January.

Duties & Responsibilities

Position Specific

  • Coordinate the planning and delivery of the South Canberra Community Markets in partnership with Lions Youth Haven and Galilee School
  • Act as the main point of contact for volunteers, stallholders and stakeholders
  • Manage stallholder bookings, communication and support
  • Coordinate volunteers, including rostering and on-the-day support
  • Oversee market day operations to ensure smooth and safe delivery
  • Support promotion of the markets within the local community
  • Maintain accurate records (e.g. stallholders, volunteers, operations)
  • Identify and implement improvements to market processes
  • Contribute to the long-term sustainability and community impact of the market

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Maintain current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate events, activities or projects involving multiple stakeholders
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to problem-solve and respond calmly in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic administrative skills (email, spreadsheets, record keeping)
  • Commitment to inclusion, community values and safe environments
  • Willingness to follow policies, procedures and safety requirements

Desirable

  • Experience coordinating volunteers or leading teams
  • Experience in community events, markets or not-for-profit settings
  • Understanding of WHS, risk management or event compliance
  • Knowledge of local community networks in South Canberra or the ACT
