Garden Mentor

GROW Gardens is a Melbourne-based social enterprise delivering high-quality gardening, landscaping and urban greening services while creating real employment pathways for First Nations youth. Our work includes garden maintenance, planting projects, landscape renewals and public greening projects across commercial, community and civic spaces. Recent work includes landscape renewal projects using locally indigenous plant species, with a focus on plant performance, soil health, long-term establishment and improving the overall landscape aesthetic.
Our workforce is made up of young people who are building confidence, practical skills and an understanding of what it means to be part of a working team. Many are still developing their experience in horticulture, landscaping and general work habits, so the way we teach, lead and support people is just as important as the garden work itself. We are looking for someone who enjoys working alongside people, not just directing them, and who can create a calm, safe and encouraging learning environment on site.
We are seeking a Garden Mentor to volunteer with GROW Gardens two days per week. This role would suit someone with strong practical experience in horticulture, landscaping, garden maintenance, planting, pruning, tools, soil improvement and general site work. The ideal person will be confident leading a relatively inexperienced workforce, breaking tasks down clearly, teaching practical garden skills, modelling safe and professional work habits, and helping young people understand how work works, including punctuality, teamwork, communication, taking initiative and pride in the job.
Ideally, we are looking for someone based in or near Yarraville, Victoria, with their own car or ute, who can easily connect with the team and travel to local job sites.
