About Fostercare Sports

Fostercare Sports is an Australian charity helping children in foster and out-of-home care connect with local sports clubs. Sport can provide something incredibly powerful for children who have experienced disruption in their lives — friendship, confidence, routine and a sense of belonging.

Our model works by partnering with local sports clubs who support children in care by welcoming them into teams, often waiving fees, providing uniforms, or allowing flexible registrations. Through this community-driven approach, children are able to quickly join a team and feel part of their local community.

In just our first 18 months we supported over 300 children across multiple states to participate in sport — and we believe this is only the beginning.

About the Role

We are looking for a Volunteer Social Media Manager / Digital Storyteller to help us grow our online presence and share the impact of the work we are doing.

Currently, the organisation mainly uses LinkedIn. We would like to expand into Facebook and Instagram, but we lack the internal expertise to do this effectively.

We are therefore looking for someone who can guide us, set up our accounts, and help us build a simple and effective social media presence.

This role is less about doing everything yourself and more about working alongside our small team and helping us understand what works.

Key Duties

The volunteer may assist with:

  • Setting up and optimising Facebook and Instagram accounts
  • Helping create a simple social media strategy
  • Advising what types of stories, photos and content we should capture
  • Creating and scheduling posts
  • Sharing updates about program milestones and impact
  • Helping grow our audience and online community
  • Occasionally highlighting stories of the children, clubs and communities involved in the program

Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience using Facebook and Instagram for organisations or campaigns
  • Has an interest in digital storytelling or social media marketing
  • Can provide simple guidance on what content works
  • Can physically create social media content i.e. turn raw video content into a post, create an infographic and post it.
  • Is comfortable creating and scheduling social media posts
  • Enjoys being part of a small, purpose-driven team

Formal marketing qualifications are not required — enthusiasm and practical experience are more important.

Benefits of Volunteering With Us

Volunteering with Fostercare Sports offers the opportunity to:

  • Contribute your skills to a growing national charity
  • Help raise awareness for children in foster and out-of-home care
  • Gain experience helping shape the digital voice of a social impact organisation
  • Work alongside passionate people committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable children
  • Be part of something early and exciting that is growing rapidly

The Impact of This Role

This role will directly help more children access sport.

By improving our online presence and sharing the stories of the children and clubs involved, we can:

  • Reach more foster families who need support
  • Attract more sports clubs willing to help
  • Build a stronger national network of volunteers and supporters

Your work will help ensure that more children in foster care find a team, make friends and feel like they belong.

Time Commitment

Initial setup may require 2–4 hours per week for the first few weeks, followed by an ongoing commitment of around 1–2 hours per week.

The role is flexible and can be done remotely.

How to Apply

If you are interested, please send a short message outlining:

  • Your experience with social media platforms
  • Why the role interests you
  • Any examples of social media pages or campaigns you have worked on (if available)

**A quick note: **we’re especially interested in volunteers who enjoy helping organisations think about what to post and why. We don’t expect you to just run our accounts — we’re hoping to learn from your expertise and work together to build something meaningful.
