The President provides leadership to the organisation and works closely with the Committee, volunteers and community partners to ensure THO continues to fulfil its mission of supporting people experiencing homelessness.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic leadership and help guide the future direction of THO.
  • Chair Committee meetings and the Annual General Meeting in a fair, organised and effective manner.
  • Ensure the Committee operates in accordance with the Constitution, policies and legal obligations.
  • Foster a positive, respectful and collaborative culture among Committee members and volunteers.
  • Support and mentor Committee members and senior volunteers in their roles.
  • Represent THO professionally when engaging with government, community organisations, churches, businesses, donors and the media.
  • Work with the Treasurer and Committee to oversee the organisation's financial sustainability and good governance.
  • Assist in identifying funding opportunities, grants and community partnerships.
  • Support the ongoing development of THO programs and services, including initiatives that improve outcomes for people experiencing homelessness.
  • Ensure appropriate risk management, safeguarding and compliance practices are maintained.
  • Act as an authorised spokesperson for the organisation when required.
  • Work collaboratively with the Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee to achieve THO's strategic goals.
  • Promote the values of compassion, integrity, respect, accountability and servant leadership in all aspects of the organisation.

Skills and Qualities

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has leadership or management experience (not-for-profit experience is desirable but not essential).
  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Can think strategically while supporting day-to-day operations.
  • Understands good governance or is willing to learn.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team.
  • Is organised, reliable and able to make balanced decisions.
  • Is passionate about supporting people experiencing homelessness and strengthening the local community.
