The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), is an Australian Government funded program.
Volunteering with Elder Rights Australia helps improve the health and wellbeing of older people across Victoria and NSW. It’s also a rewarding opportunity to share your skills and experience, learn new ones, and enjoy the personal satisfaction of making a meaningful difference.
What's involved?
You will be introduced to an older person in their home or aged care home who is experiencing feelings of social isolation. Through your ongoing visits, you will build a meaningful friendship by providing companionship that will assist in reducing feelings of loneliness and encourage social connection.
* Visit with an older person at least fortnightly (weekly if preferred), for around an hour at a time

Enjoy activities together such as having a chat over a cuppa, playing a game, going for a gentle walk, reading or listening to music

Receive ongoing support from your program officer

Complete a simple monthly survey
About you
- You must be aged 18 years or older
- Have a genuine interest in easing loneliness in older people.
- Be warm, caring and compassionate.
- Enjoy listening and connecting with older people.
- Be reliable, flexible and comfortable volunteering independently.
- Be respectful of boundaries and confidentiality
