Share Your Language. Build a Friendship. Make a Difference.

We’re looking for a warm and caring Serbian or Croatian-speaking volunteer to spend time with an older woman living in Forest Lodge.

She enjoys having people around her, but there is something special about being able to sit down with someone who speaks her language, understands her culture and can share familiar stories and experiences.

This isn’t about having a set agenda or planning elaborate activities. It’s about having genuine time together. You might enjoy a coffee and conversation, take a gentle walk through the garden, watch a Serbian or Croatian program, listen to familiar music, or simply sit and talk about life.

For you, it might be an hour or two out of your week. For her, it could be the part of the week she looks forward to most.

By sharing your language and your time, you can help her stay connected to her culture, memories and community while building a friendship along the way.

You don’t need previous volunteering experience. We’re simply looking for someone who is:

  • Caring, patient and reliable
  • Comfortable spending time with an older person
  • Able to speak Serbian or Croatian
  • Interested in conversation, culture and sharing life experiences
  • Willing to visit regularly, either weekly or fortnightly

Supported Every Step of the Way

All volunteers must be 18 years or older and complete a National Police Check. You’ll receive ongoing training, guidance and support from your Program Coordinator, so you’ll never be on your own.

Could You Be the Connection She’s Missing?

If you speak Serbian or Croatian and have a little time to share, you could make a meaningful difference simply by being there.

A familiar language. A friendly conversation. A new friendship.

Sometimes, that’s all it takes to make someone feel a little less alone.
